A Year in Malaga

I spent the last 10 months living in Malaga, working at Los Guindos, and getting to know all of the wonderful students and teachers who make a part of our micro-community and our larger Comenius community. Everyone I came into contact with was kind, caring, and helpful to a girl who had moved to a new continent, far away from family and friends.

In all, the experience was very fulfilling. I watched my students improve their English while they simultaneously helped me improve my Spanish. I taught my students and friends tidbits about the United States and the American people, while I myself was being thrown headfirst into a sea of cultural differences. At first, this "sea" was chilly, and the water a bit turbulent, but with the help of my students, fellow teachers, and new friends, I found that I was able to swim comfortably. Soon, it didn't even feel like I was swimming--Malaga felt like home. Los Guindos felt like home.

It is for this reason that I am very pleased to announce that I will officially be back in Malaga in September, once again at Los Guindos. The Junta de Andalucia notified me this week that they had given me the same position, and I could not be happier.

I look forward to seeing you all in the fall. Have a happy and safe summer :)
